    • Amazing car... if you're under 5'8"

By Mike on Saturday, March 27, 2021

Don't get me wrong. The Mazda CX-5 is an amazing car for the price. You get a very sporty SUV, that's luxury, compact, efficient and very agile, and super fast. It's very sporty for an SUV and really if you want to you can drive it like a sedan. The torque vectoring, handling, balance and weight transfer is truly top notch. It's amazing. Mazda took a great engineering design in the torque vectoring and realized it PERFECTLY, and I am truly amazed at times by how quickly it can change direction for being an SUV. With all that being said: This car is MISERABLE if you are above around 5'8" tall, and of larger stature. Especially if you go on long drives. I am 6'1" and very broad shouldered, and fairly muscular at around 180 pounds. The seats are extremely narrow, the steering wheel does not go far enough up or out, and the seat does not lower to where I can feel the center of gravity of the car. I drive for periods for around 300 miles for road trips, outdoor expeditions etc. and I CANNOT drive this car for the life of me with any modicum of comfort for that length of time. Trust me, I've tried everything. Every conceivable seat and steering wheel position imaginable. It appears to me that they engineered this car for people of a certain height, namely under 5'8" or so and if you're tall or wide it's just painfully uncomfortable. I have developed back problems from driving this car. I will say it again: DO NOT BUY THIS CAR IF YOURE TALLER THAN 5'8. You will hate your life. It's really a shame because this car is awesome. Maybe the CX-9 is better, or something, but this car is for shorter people. Period. I wish somebody would have warned me before I bought it but it is what it is now. Great car. Just not for tall people. Hope you heed this if you're tall.

I purchased this car in June 2019! I absolutely loved it until I blew a gasket. How in the world does such a new car blow a gasket so soon. The car is perfect for me because I’m 5’5’ but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone taller. It’s perfect for a single person with no kids.
    • Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve is fantastic!

The Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve is a fantastic car with comfortable interior and top-of-the-line performance features. Its turbo engine is responsive yet fuel efficient with regular unleaded. The driving experience is superb with AWD, heads-up display projected onto the windshield, adjustable cruise control that will automatically slow to pace behind slower cars that come within radar distance and then the Grand Touring Reserve promptly accelerates to resume the set cruise speed once traffic clears within the selected distance for sensitivity. Brakes automatically engage for collision avoidance. Headlights pivot left and right as you turn around corners to illuminate the road instead of neighbor houses. Heated steering wheel and heated seats in front and rear for cold winter days; ventilated front seats and digital temperature-controlled AC for my driving in Arizona heat. Both front seats are power adjusted and the driver's seat readjusts automatically to the seating preference for up to two different sized drivers depending on which of two key fob's is used. Navigation system is flawless. Their Bose 10-speaker sound system is superb. After loving my prior 2016 Mazda Grand Touring, we upgraded into the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve and could not be more pleased.
